These days WWE keeps on changing their main events matches and even storyline frequently, and the recent changes were done this past week when John Cena lost his match against Shinsuke Nakamura.
Now for those of you who watched the match can tell that there was a not a single moment when anyone could think that Shinske would win the match as Cena kept on dominating Shinske.
However, it was Shinske Nakamura who won the match. Now, that wasn’t what was supposed to happen as the original plan was that after John Cena’s returned to Smack Down Live last month, WWE was planning to make Cena the 17th time WWE champion by defeating Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam.
But why the plan was changed? Well, there are multiple reasons behind this change.
First of all, John Cena is a free agent which means he can go to any show he wants, and that exactly what he has been doing. In recent weeks, John Cena has battled Bray Wyatt on RAW during the dark segment.
New plans suggest that John Cena will be moving to RAW after SummerSlam, and has been advertised for the RAW’s exclusive upcoming PPV No Mercy. John Cena is also been advertised to take on Samoa Joe on RAW after SummerSlam.
However, he will not be granted any championship match. A major reason behind this change of plans is because of the availability of the champion. Quite similar to Brock Lesnar schedule, John Cena now too will be available on select dates, which is not a good thing if you are the top champion.
The reason behind this is because Cena is now working on a Transformer based movie ‘Bumblebee’ and the shooting of the movie has already begun. Therefore for Cena to show up on RAW on every week will not be possible.
And the same kind of thing would have happen if Cena was still part of SmackDown Live. Even if he would have won the WWE Champion by defeating Jinder Mahal at Summerslam, he wouldn’t be able to show up and perform on regular basis, which is something not the authority or the fans would like.
So this is the real reason John Cena lost the match against Shinsuke Nakamura. Nonetheless, the speculation of Cena becoming a 17th time World Champion is still on.
Despite all the factors both SmackDown Live and RAW are not having enough star power to attract good viewership. Currently, there are also rumour that USA network may not renew their contract with WWE, thereby forcing WWE to go with other broadcasting network.
In recent years, the company has failed to develop a superstar which is why every now and then WWE keeps bringing back part timers like Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Triple H, etc.
After Cena’s departure SmackDown Live’s rating may drop below average. So the decision taken by the authority to move Cena to RAW may come back to bite them because currently the SmackDown roasters doesn’t have much star power.
The show rests on few Superstars like AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens. Until WWE evolves new upcoming talent, this trend will keep on going. It was planned that to increase their dropping ratings Roman Reigns and other top superstars will be drafted to SmackDown Live, even that plan was called off as RAW’s rating is also declining.
