Among all the NITs in India, National Institute Of Technology, Uttarakhand is said to be ranked in 28th. It is also known as NIT Uttarakhand or NITUK. It was founded in 2010 as one of the 31 NITs in India. It is also recognized as Institute of National Importance. In 2010-11 the first batch of students has been admitted. The chairman of NIT, Uttarakhand is Dr. Bhaskar Bhatt and the director of this institution is Dr. H.T Thorat.
Ex. Distinguished Scientist Dr. Satish Kumar and Ex. Director General Missiles and Strategic System, DRDO Delhi assumed the charge of the post in charge Director NIT, Uttarakhand. It consists of two campuses, the temporary and permanent campus and it is a public engineering institution in Uttarakhand. It is one among the ten newly NITs which is established by the Human Resource and Development.

National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand is located in Uttarakhand, India. The temporary campus is located in near Govt. Polytechnic, Srinagar Garhwal (105km). The nearest railway station is Rishikesh Railway Station. The major railway station is Uttarakhand Railway Station and it is 130km from Srinagar. From Srinagar, the nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun and it is 125km from Srinagar. From the airport and railway station, Taxis and buses are available easily.
Facilities of College:

NIT Uttarakhand Placement is pretty good and satisfactory and every year the records for placement are going high. NIT, Uttarakhand invites different companies for placement and conducting interviews. As per requirements, details of the candidates are necessary along with CV. Industries from different places come to this institution for placement and interviews. For selecting the best candidates some of the companies who visited this institution are NSE, Infosys, Nuclear Software Exports, Ramco Systems, and Venera. Many organizations like DRDO, Code Chef also visited this institution. The second batch of students got a lot of placement facilities with a high package in2014-15.
For the needs of the students from different departments and various sections, Computer Centre holds the Central facility. The main aim of Computer center is to provide and promote the new technology among the students, and staff. Throughout the campus, the Computer Centre manages and looks after all the Computing services. Video conferencing, Wi-Fi facilities are available in the campus which has servers from Dell, IBM. Wi-Fi facilities will help all the faculty members and students within the campus to stay connected with secure. The campus is secured with 24/7 CCTV surveillance. E-mail facilities are provided for the students and faculty members and there are around thousands of e-mail accounts.
Hostel and Mess Facilities:
There are a total of 7 hostels for boys and girls for around 800 hundred students in the temporary campus. NITUK has Six boy’s hostel and one girl’s hostel. The hostels provide all the basic need with proper care and guide. The rooms of the hostels are available at sharing basis. Both the girl’s and boy’s hostel have been provided with geyser, water purifier, water coolers etc. Wi-Fi is connected in all the hostels. Each hostel has CCTV cameras for security check. An indoor and outdoor game is also provided in the hostel. A team of warden looks after the girls and boys hostel.
Each hostel provides own mess facility. The daily menu of the mess is decided by the mess committee. This comprises of senior students and Chief Warden. All the mess related activities are taken good care by the Head Manager. Utensils are cleaned thoroughly daily and for cooking, they are fitted with the latest equipment which is hygienic and clean.
Many Engineers and Management students passed out from NITUK with good results. The students are guided in such systematic way that qualifies them to get better results. Approximately, all the students completed their education from NIT Uttarakhand. Students who are backlog can also appear for re-examination after 1 month. So it can be figured out that the pass rate is very high.
NIT Uttarakhand offers many opportunities for its students to participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Every year it hosts Techno Cultural Festivals and these events are related to Technology and Cultural. Cliffesto is the Techno Cultural event which is previously called Prodaya in February. Dance, quiz, drama and other many competitions take place where prizes are being distributed to the winners of the competitions. The first Cliffesto started in 2015 from 20th to 22nd February. Other cultural events like Fresher’s Night called Pravartak and departmental gatherings take place within the college campus. Technical events like ROBO war, Code Clash, Engine Assembly Workshowasre also organized. Besides all these events the Institute for the first time hosted a peculiar event called Weapon Display Exhibition and this exhibition was organized by Sixth Battalion of Kumaon Regiment.
NITUK offers many opportunities to its students for sports and all the sports facilities are available in this institution. There are at least three major tournaments taking place that is inter college, inter department and inter-year. Sports which includes in this institute are Football, Badminton, Cricket, Basketball, Volley Ball, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Carom, Poker and much more such type of games. For rafting, the institute also purchased two kayaks and two rafts. Whoever students perform well in this tournaments are selected for Inter-College competitions. Students of this institution also participated in Inter-NIT College tournament and have performed well.
- Ragging is a non-bail able offense and is strictly banned and the culprit could be fined for Rs.10, 000 and imprisonment of 2 years.
- Admission for bachelor degree for students in India is based on the MAIN Joint Entrance Examination after securing 60% and in class 12 board exam scoring 40%.
- For foreign students, B-Tech admissions are done through the DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) Scheme.
