NIT Srinagar has been ranked as the 18th among all the NIT in India. It was established in 1960 as Regional Engineering College, Srinagar and was upgraded to National Institute of Technology in 2003. Since then it is considered as a "Deemed University" and has been recognized as an “Institute of National Importance.”
This institute is considered as one of the best technical institutions in India and is directly under the control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Now it acts an autonomous body that conducts its own exams and along with the other National Institutes of Technology in India. How to Reach NIT Srinagar:
To reach NIT Srinagar you need to reach Srinagar International Airport, which is about 20 km away from the institute. You can avail a Taxi or Car Service from the Airport to reach the college. The nearest railway station i.e. the Jammu Tawi Railway Station is about 300 km away. It takes around 7-8 hours to reach the institute through the High Mountain pass.
Facilities of College:
The institute has been provided with the best and latest facilities. Some of the Major facilities of this Institute are provided below.
NIT Srinagar placements are taken care of by the Training and placement cell. They start preparing the students to get placed in the companies since the first day. The Placement and Training cell comprises of some dedicated professors who work to hone the technical dexterity and professionalism of the students. The Training and Placement facility of the college has received praises from the visiting companies for their hard work and hospitality.
The sole purpose of this cell is to conduct all sorts of tests related to the placements of the students. They invite the companies for conducting placement on the campus. Nearly all the deserving students get placed and the students who don’t get placed secure jobs off campus. The ultimate goal of the institution is to produce and provide the best engineers to the country.
The Computer Center of the institution is the backbone of the institution and provides all computer related facilities to the whole campus. It is connected to all the departments and provides support whenever necessary. It also provides WiFi facilities to the hostels, academic building and the library.
The Central Library of the institution houses around thousands of books. Lately, they have also introduced a digital library that can be accessed through electronic mediums. The library is available to the students throughout the week but is accessible only at provided hours.
Hostel and Mess Facilities:
There is a total of 6 six hostels in the institution, out of these hostels 5 are allotted for the boys and 1 is allotted for the girls. The boy's hostels are named after all the famous rivers of the region. All the hostels are controlled by the chief warden. The hostel manager is in charge of maintaining a peaceful environment on the hostel premises.
Some other staffs have been appointed for helping the hostel manager in carrying out his duties. The Hostel warden and other staff of the hostel visit the hostels regularly to attend the problems of the students. The hostels have been provided with all the facilities that are required by the students for pursuing their education without any problems. Some of these facilities are indoor games, newspapers, water purifiers, Geysers, Gym, WiFi, etc.
All the hostels have been provided with their own messes. These mess are controlled by the students under the supervision of the chairman of the student’s masses. There is also a quality/quantity control committee that checks the items that are served to the students for consumption. The messes are also fitted with the latest equipment’s that are required for preparing food. They are cleaned regularly by the people who are responsible for cooking and cleaning purposes.
Despite being quite new NIT Srinagar Cut off is quite high. The students who graduated from this institution secure good marks. Like the other NITs, this institution also has a backlog program that allows the backlog students to re-appear for examination after a month.
Techvaganza is the one and only festival of the institution and is considered to be one the biggest festivals all over India. It is a 3-day event that is organised by the institution in the month of April. The main aim of this festival is to boost the technical knowledge among the students all over the country. It is the annual technical festival of the institution which is organised by the student body of the institution. This student’s body comprises of students that are divided into three categories, the people in these categories are tasked with some specific tasks.
Lots of events are organized during this festival, such events are Sniper Bot, Storm Warriors, Maglev, SmackDown, Blind Alley, Metallomaina, Techtonic quiz, P3, Vikings, Animation, Spot event, Botorace, Fulcrum etc. Apart from that some workshops and lectures are also organized, where the students are addressed by eminent personalities. Techvaganza festival receives thousands of students from all over the country.
A huge playground has been provided for the students. The students can play cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, basketball etc. The playground is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The institute also organizes a sports week in which various tournaments are organized.
Many attractive prizes are given away to the winners of these tournaments. The institute also participates in different sports events that are held on the campus of other institutes. Students of National Institute of Technology Srinagar also participate in the Inter-NIT sports meet.
Some other information about the institute are:
- Ragging is banned and is a non-bail able offense where the culprit can be fined for Rs.10,000 and an imprisonment of 2 years.
