NIT Hamirpur is said to be the 16th among the NIT in the country. It is a Public Engineering and Technology University which was started on 7th August 1986. Its name was changed to National Institute of Technology from Regional Engineering College in 2002 and it was given deemed university status in the same year.
In 2007 it was ranked as the best NIT in terms of infrastructure and it was elevated to the status of “Institute of National Importance” in the same year. NIT Hamirpur Rankings are said to be among some of the best in India.
How to Reach NIT Hamirpur:
The best way is to reach NIT Hamirpur is to arrive at Dharamsala Airport first. From there you can avail a Bus to the Hamirpur Bus Station. The campus is about 2 km away from Hamirpur Bus Station and can be reached there by a Prepaid Taxi.
Facilities of College:
All the latest facilities are provided by the institution to the students. Some of the major facilities of the college are:
NIT Hamirpur placement is undertaken by the faculty member of the college. They also coordinate with the Students placements council which is solely made up of the students of various departments. The placement cell controls all the activity related to placements, they act as a liaison between the companies and the college.
They invite the companies to conduct placements on the campus and offer jobs to the deserving students. Many famous companies visit the campus for offering jobs to students. Some of the famous companies are Tata Motors, Capgemini, ESSAR Group, etc. Nearly all the students get placed and are offered good packages.
The Central computer facility takes care of the whole college and especially the Academic building. This facility serves as the backbone of the whole institution. The personals at the facility work round the clock ensuring that the services provided are running smoothly and efficiently. This facility has been equipped with the latest systems and softwares. They keep themselves updated with latest hardware and softwares accordingly for providing better assistance to the students and the faculties.
After its foundation in 1986 at the government polytechnic college, it was shifted to its current place in 1988 and it has been there since. The Central Library houses around a total of 75,000 books and lots of e-books and journals. The Central computer facility provides them with LAN and WiFi for providing easy access to the students.
Hostel and Mess Facilities:
This institution has a total of 8 hostels out of which 7 are for boys and one is allotted for the girls. The hostels are under the control of the warden. Single rooms are allotted for each student. The hostels are in perfect shape and provide basic facilities like Cable TV, Daily Newspaper, Indoor Games facility, Wifi, LAN, Water coolers for the students.
Each hostel is provided with its own mess. Both vegetarian and Non-vegetarian food is available in these messes. The messes are very clean and fitted with clean utensils. The daily menu is decided by the students. Besides these basic facilities, they have a number of other facilities, some of which are Hospital, Bank & ATM, Post Office, Innovation Centre, NIT Canteen, etc.
The Overall result of the college is always good. The Average pass rate of the institution is above 90%. Those students are not able to graduate can sit for re-examination after one month. NIT Hamirpur cut off is quite high too.
A number of events are organised throughout the year. Major events organised by the institution are Nimbus and Hill’ffair.
It is the annual technical festival of the institution and supposedly one of the biggest in North India. Students from all over come to visit this event as it is said to be one of the best in North India. The institution organizes a lot of events like Robot making, Software Programming etc. There are also competitions in this festival like Robotics, Ethical Hacking etc. Many eminent personalities visit this festival and provide lectures to increase their interests of the students in the technical field.
It can be called as the biggest festival of the institution. Hill’ffair is said to be a cultural event of the institution which is organized at the national level. Over a span of 3-days, many events are conducted during this festival. Some of these events being Fashion Shows, Art Designing, Rock Shows, Dance Competitions, etc. Participants from all over North India and the country visit this festival and perform in the events of this festival.
This festival also holds competitions related to dance, music, drama, art and a Mr. and Mrs. Hill’ffair competition is also conducted during this festival. Many famous personalities are invited to this festival for performing for the students and the participants. Many attractive awards are also given away to the winners of these competitions.
NIT Hamirpur has lots of sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor. They have a Cricket field, Soccer ground, Basketball courts, Volleyball courts and Badminton courts. They also have a swimming pool and even a Gymnasium. The Institution sends out teams to compete in different university level competitions and other national level competitions too. National Institute of Technology Hamirpur even participates in the InterNIT meet which is only meant for the students of NIT.
Some other information about the institution are:
- Ragging is banned and is a non-bail able offence where the culprit can be fined for Rs.10,000 and an imprisonment of 2 years.
- Edu-Rand ranked this institution as the 30th best Engineering institution in the country in 2015.
This institution is one of the best technical colleges in the country.
